
Undersheriff Matthew Davis is a longtime resident of Yolo County and a graduate of Davis Senior High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento.
Undersheriff Davis began his career with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 as a Deputy Sheriff, initially assigned to Court Services. In 2005, he was selected to serve as a Resident Deputy, providing law enforcement services to the rural communities of northern Yolo County, including Yolo, Knights Landing, Zamora, and Dunnigan. During his tenure in the Field Operations Division, he also served as a member of the Sheriff’s Honor Guard, a Field Training Officer, and as part of the Capay Augmented Patrol program.
In 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant, where he supervised patrol operations, served as Crisis Negotiations Team Leader, and was appointed as the Sheriff’s Public Information Officer. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2019 and to Captain in 2021, holding supervisory and executive leadership roles within the Field Operations, Detention, and Administrative Divisions.
In October 2022, Sheriff Lopez appointed him to the position of Undersheriff. As second-in-command of the Sheriff’s Office, Undersheriff Davis supports the Sheriff in overseeing all divisions and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and service to the residents of Yolo County.
