The Resident Deputy Program assigns specially trained Sheriff’s Deputies to live and work within the rural and unincorporated communities they serve. This model builds strong relationships, improves communication, and creates a visible law enforcement presence that fosters trust. By becoming familiar faces in the community, resident deputies gain a deeper understanding of local concerns and can work directly with residents, schools, businesses, and partner agencies to address issues proactively.
Because they are embedded in their assigned areas, resident deputies can respond more quickly to calls for service, especially in remote locations. Their ongoing local presence helps deter crime, identify emerging problems early, and support community safety efforts during emergencies or natural disasters. The result is a safer, more connected community with personalized, responsive service.
Meet your Resident Deputies
My name is Jason Wood, and I have proudly served as a Yolo County Sheriff’s Deputy for the past six years. In addition to my patrol duties, I contribute to several specialized teams, including the Yolo County Regional SWAT Team, Honor Guard, and Peer Support Team. I also serve as a Field Training Officer, where I enjoy mentoring new deputies and helping them gain the knowledge and experience needed to succeed. For the last four years, I have had the privilege of serving as the Resident Deputy for the Clarksburg area.
For more than 15 years, I’ve spent time running and cycling through the scenic Clarksburg region, and I value the strong sense of community that defines this area. Being part of community events, school activities, local meetings, and sports programs has allowed me to build meaningful relationships with residents and better understand the unique character of Clarksburg. I am proud to serve a community that is so deeply connected and supportive.
Outside of work, I’m a father of twin 14-year-old daughters and enjoy coaching their soccer team in West Sacramento.
