Sheriff’s Work Programs and Electronic Monitoring
The Sheriff’s Working Inmate Program (SWIP) and Electronic Monitoring Program (EM) are part of the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office
Alternative Sentencing Programs, offering eligible individuals the opportunity to serve court-ordered jail commitments outside of traditional custody settings.

Office Hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Closed on all County holidays.
Please arrive at least 45 minutes before closing to allow sufficient time for processing.
Available Programs
The Sheriff’s Working Inmate Program allows participants to perform supervised outdoor work for Yolo County in exchange for jail time. The SWIP program operates seven days a week, excluding holidays, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is no fee associated with this program.
SWIP participants are supervised by the Yolo County Probation Department. In certain circumstances, program participation may be transferred to the county in which they reside in.
Enrollment Requirements:
- Appear in person no sooner than 72 hours after sentencing to allow time for court paperwork to be received.
- Present a valid U.S. or State-issued photo identification (Driver’s License, ID Card, Passport, or Military ID).
- Provide a copy of your court minute order showing jail commitment.
- Have a sentence of 180 days or less.
- Complete the booking process.
- Be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Program Participation and Oversight
Applicants are evaluated on a case-by-case basis during the classification process. Considerations include the severity of the offense, circumstances of the case, victim impact, criminal history, prior program performance, and in-custody behavior.
Placement decisions are made in the best interest of public safety.
Approval or denial of participation is at the sole discretion of the Sheriff’s Office, and participation in these programs is a privilege, not a right.
