Awards & Honors

The Sheriff’s Office places great importance on recognizing individuals who have gone above and beyond in service to the agency or the community. Each year, we formally honor Sheriff’s personnel who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, courage, or service that reflects positively on the Office of the Sheriff and the people we serve. When an individual’s actions meet or exceed the established criteria for recognition, the Sheriff’s Awards Committee may consider them for one of several official awards or commendations outlined in our program.

Deputy of the Year- Detective Robert Blumer

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office proudly names Detective Robert Blumer as our “2024 Deputy of the Year.”  Deputy Blumer began his career with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office in March of 2019 and entered the Investigations Section in July of 2023.

Since the beginning of 2024, Deputy Blumer has been an instrumental asset to the Investigations Team.  He has investigated crimes ranging from crimes against persons, property crimes, narcotic violations, and violent felonies.  However, it is Robert’s tireless efforts that resulted in the apprehension of child predators that he is being recognized.  He has worked several of these cases from the initial report through large scale statewide investigations.  One such case began on March 20, 2024, when YCSO Detectives including Robert, engaged in an online undercover operation posing as a 13-year-old girl.  Through this operation, they arranged a meet where the suspect was arrested and is now facing federal and state charges outside of California.  This operation led to a second subject of interest who Deputy Blumer proactively investigated and was subsequently arrested for many of the same charges.  Robert’s approachable demeanor and interpersonal skills are crucial in building bonds with victims and family members in these cases.

In addition to his regular daily duties as an investigator, Deputy Blumer is also assigned the collateral duties of Mobile Field Force, UAS Team, EOD Team, Field Training Officer, and Instructor for Defensive Tactics/Arrest Control, Peacekeeper, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Impact Weapons and Taser/Baton trainings.  Deputy Blumer’s work ethic, dedication, and motivation are nothing short of extraordinary.  He exemplifies the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office “Honored to Serve” motto.  It is with extreme gratitude and appreciation the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office names Robert Blumer as our “2024 Deputy of the Year.”
