It is with sincere pleasure that we announce Correctional Officer II Luis Alatorre as our “2024 Correctional Officer of the Year.”  CO II Alatorre was nominated by several of his co-workers for this award, and that speaks volumes to his work ethic, character, and positive attitude.

In addition to his regular shift duties, CO II Luis Alatorre is a Jail Training Officer, CERT Team Member, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and has acted as Officer in Charge on several occasions.  Luis treats his fellow officers, jail staff, and inmates with respect and constantly displays a positive attitude.  He ensures that inmates and officers are always safe, and regularly checks in on his coworkers’ wellbeing.

CO II Alatorre leads by example and remains professional even in the “heat of battle.”  On one such occasion, the team entered a cell to remove an inmate for an Involuntary Medication Order who had previously displayed noncompliance.  Upon entry, the team was struggling to maintain control.  Based on his personal observations and knowledge of the team’s strengths, Luis professionally but with authority in his voice, instructed the team to slow down.  He was able to calmly speak with the inmate, lessening his resistance, and the team was able to get him restrained with no injuries to the inmate or staff.

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office thanks Correctional Officer II Luis Alatorre for his outstanding performance, professionalism and dedication to not only keeping his co-workers safe, but the inmates as well.   He embodies the spirit of the motto “Honored to Serve” and we proudly name him our “2024 Correctional Officer of the Year.”

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is proud to recognize Sheriff’s Support Specialist Lizett Garcia as our “2024 Employee of the Year.”  Lizett began her career with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office in August 2023 and is assigned to the Planning and Research section.

Lizett has proven to be a valuable asset to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office by consistently going above and beyond.  She is instrumental in managing the requests for Information Technology and Telecommunications.  She shows impressive initiative in implementing new technological systems, which is vital for our continuous improvement.  In addition to maintaining inventories for computer equipment, hardware, software and telephones, Lizett maintains the Sheriff’s Office website and oversees our social media platforms, by actively seeking out and developing engaging and relevant web content, enhancing our communication with the community.  Her precise and methodical work ethic in every aspect of her role, facilitates smooth operations and minimizes errors.

Lizett always displays a positive attitude, and she fosters an inclusive and supportive team environment.  Lizett is constantly ready to lend a helping hand and she embodies the Sheriff’s Office motto “Honored to Serve.”  It is with sincere appreciation the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office recognizes Sheriff’s Support Specialist Lizett Garcia as the “2024 Employee of the Year.”

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to recognize Sergeant Jack Schubert as the “2024 Sworn Manager of the Year.” This year, Sergeant Schubert received multiple nominations which speaks highly of his character and professionalism.

Sergeant Jack Schubert demonstrates exceptional work performance, the highest professional standards, and integrity.  During his time in the Court Services section, his leadership improved performance and morale, empowering those under his command to excel.  He fosters a positive and collaborative environment by beginning each shift with a positive briefing.  He once asked his group, “What is the most important call for service?”  It resonated with the team when his response was, “The most important call for service is the one you’re on.”

Sergeant Schubert recently completed the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute course.  Due to his qualities as a transformative leader, including strong communication, critical thinking, and commitment to service, he was asked to return as a proctor.

Sergeant Jack Schubert displays a positive attitude and is an exceptional representative of the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.  He is an undeniable example of “Honored to Serve” and he simply makes the Sheriff’s Office a better place.  We are excited to name Sergeant Jack Schubert as the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office “2024 Sworn Manager of the Year.”

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office recognizes S.T.A.R.S. member Harold Laber as the “2024 Volunteer of the Year.”  Harold joined the S.T.A.R.S. in December of 2016 and has volunteered 2400+ hours.

Harold Laber habitually volunteers twice a week and also assists with community events.  He was eager to assist the S.T.A.R.S.  team with the OAN (Owner Applied Number) project of farm equipment stamping.  Harold was a quick learner and proved his ability to be a team leader.  Approximately a year later, he was appointed as a Field Training Officer, where he trains and assists new members with duties such as patrol, vacation house checks, and vehicle maintenance.  In addition to his duties as a member of the S.T.A.R.S., Harold is an active member of his church.

Harold is an exceptional volunteer and approaches any given assignment as a positive role model and representative of the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.  It is with sincere appreciation and gratitude for the many hours he has generously donated, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office proudly names Harold Laber as the “2024 Volunteer of the Year.”
